A dental implant is a biocompatible artificial tooth root that is placed into the jawbone to replace the root of a missing tooth. Implants are generally made of titanium and are surgically placed into the jawbone, where they provide a stable foundation for a replacement tooth. Dental implants are a widely used treatment option for replacing missing teeth and can be used as an alternative to dental bridges.
With a dental bridge, the two teeth adjacent to the gap are prepared by removing some of their tooth structure, and a prosthetic tooth is used to fill the space. When a missing tooth is replaced with an implant, the adjacent teeth do not need to be altered. This allows the neighbouring teeth to be preserved, which is one of the main advantages of dental implants.
Implant treatment is generally recommended as soon as appropriate after tooth extraction. Following tooth extraction, changes can occur in the surrounding area, including bone loss, movement of neighbouring teeth towards the space, and movement of opposing teeth into the space. Placing an implant before these changes occur, when clinically appropriate, can help preserve the oral structures and provide suitable conditions for implant placement. In some cases, tooth extraction and implant placement can be performed during the same appointment, depending on the patient’s individual circumstances.
Implant treatment can be a highly successful option for many people in good general health. For patients with systemic conditions, implant treatment may be carried out with the approval of the relevant doctor when the condition is well controlled. Poor oral hygiene and inadequate oral care can increase the risk of implant complications or failure. Smoking can also negatively affect implant health and healing, although smokers may still be suitable candidates for implant treatment. Smokers should take particular care of their oral hygiene and follow their dentist’s recommendations.
As mentioned above, each patient’s general health, habits, jawbone structure, and oral condition are unique. Based on the results of the necessary examinations and the patient’s medical history, the dentist will explain the proposed treatment, expected outcome, and potential risks before implant treatment. The treatment plan is then developed taking the patient’s individual needs and preferences into account.
Implant treatment is performed in individuals who have lost teeth for various reasons, with the aim of filling the gap left by the missing tooth. Tooth loss can cause many problems, both aesthetically and functionally. A missing tooth may cause difficulties with eating, problems with the jaw structure and speech, impaired tooth alignment, and aesthetic concerns.
Thinning of the jawbone can occur after tooth loss. This thinning can be prevented to a significant degree, and the jaw structure can be preserved with dental implants. In bridge prostheses used in cases of tooth loss, the treatment is supported by the neighbouring teeth. With implant treatment, the results can be healthier and more long-lasting, as an artificial titanium root is placed in the gap and a replacement tooth is built on it.
There is a lot of misinformation about implant treatments. This is because implant treatment can be performed using different methods depending on the individual and their condition. Treatment varies depending on many factors, such as a person’s jaw structure, facial structure, oral hygiene, and the type of implant. Therefore, it is always beneficial to make a decision based on the advice of a dentist rather than second-hand information.
Implant treatment is performed under local anaesthesia. Treatment begins after the implant site has been anaesthetised. Therefore, it is a painless treatment.
There are different methods of implant treatment, which are selected based on the individual case. The first method is the insertion of an implant into the extraction gap after tooth extraction when there is sufficient bone. With this method, stitches are usually not required since there is no incision or flap removal. The short treatment time and the fact that a second surgical procedure is not required are among its main advantages.
Another method involves a surgical procedure in which the dentist can see the bone tissue where the implant is to be inserted and performs the procedure by making an incision in the soft tissue. The wound is closed with stitches after the implant is placed. The stitches are removed a week later, and the procedure site is checked.
In another method, the patient’s jaw tomography is reviewed, and the implant is placed directly through the mucosa with the help of surgical guides prepared based on intraoral measurements. No incision is made in the gums with this method, so stitches are not required.
Dental implants can provide both functional and aesthetic benefits. They can help restore chewing function, support the surrounding bone, and provide a natural-looking replacement for a missing tooth.
They can also help prevent problems that could arise in the jawbone by preventing the thinning that can occur in the jawbone after tooth extraction. Dental implants can provide a natural-looking appearance and may feel more like natural teeth than some other tooth replacement options.
Placing an implant in the extraction gap without affecting the neighbouring teeth is one of the most significant advantages compared with a dental bridge.
Maintaining long-term oral health with implants can provide you with greater self-confidence. You can have a more natural and beautiful smile with this increased self-confidence. You can access implant treatment through our carefully selected dental clinics and experienced dental professionals.
Filling the gaps of missing teeth with dental implants is the most important method developed so far. Especially in cases with total edentulism, dental implants are more successful than classical prosthetic applications. In total edentulism cases, all on four implant technique is applied by inserting 4 implants with specific angles and placing a tooth prosthesis on them on the same day.
Since fewer implants are used, the cost is much lower than that of conventional implant treatment.
On the day the implants are placed, function and aesthetics are provided with a temporary fixed dental prosthesis.
It helps prevent excessive bone loss.
It has a high success rate.
The implants are placed with sufficient space to make cleaning easier.
Care is much easier compared with conventional implants.
The operation process, which includes the placement of the implant in the jawbone, is quite short. Contrary to popular belief, it is also a simple procedure. Following the placement of the implant in the jawbone, there must be a waiting period for the implant to integrate with the bone. This period lasts for about 3 months. However, this period can be reduced to as little as 1 and a half months using some special implants.
Following the required waiting period, the prosthesis to be placed on the implant can be produced within 1 week. It may not be possible to place all implants at the same time in multiple-implant procedures. However, all implants are placed at the same time in the All-on-4 technique, which shortens the treatment time.
If there is not sufficient bone volume in the jawbone, this problem must be treated first. Problems such as infections that may prevent the operation from being performed are not included in this treatment period.
It is seen that life of implant treatment is affected by oral care and habits of the person. Implants have been observed to last for 30 to 40 years without any problem in individuals that have a good oral hygiene and are systemically healthy. However, habits such as smoking and alcohol, failure to perform daily care, problems affecting bones or gingival issues might shorten this duration. It is very important for the individual to visit the dentist on a yearly basis in order to prolong the life of implants.
Implant operation is a costlier method than other treatment methods since the used materials are expensive and special. The requirement for a surgical operation is another element that increases the cost. The most significant reason for preferring implant treatment despite its cost is its ability to fill the extraction gaps without harming the healthy teeth in the mouth, and prevention of the bone loss at the extraction site. However, this treatment is more cost-efficient in All On Four Technique since a full prosthesis is placed on 4 implants. This method is quite efficient considering the advantages it provides as well as the long life of implants promised.
Smile design includes identifying and carrying out the procedures required to help individuals achieve a beautiful smile. Procedures may be performed not only on the teeth, but also on the gums and lips. The individual’s personal needs identified by the dentist are taken into account, as well as the wishes of the person undergoing the procedures.
In cases where surgical or orthodontic treatment is not required, problems with the gums are treated and the gum line is aligned with the teeth. An aesthetic tooth colour can be achieved through bleaching procedures. The necessary procedures are performed to change the shape and size of the teeth.
In addition, if deemed necessary, the symmetry and fullness of the lips can be adjusted according to the individual through surgical lip procedures.
In custom aesthetic smile design, the interventions are performed specifically for each person. In the treatment planning process, the structure, size and position of the teeth are important, as well as the structure of the gums. Decisions such as the size of laminates and the proportion of zirconium to be used require experience in the field. Zirconium or laminate crowns or procedures such as lip contouring surgery require technical expertise as well as a strong aesthetic perception and an eye for aesthetics. Therefore, choosing specialised and experienced dentists in this field is critical for these procedures. Our selected dental clinics employ dentists and dental technicians specialised in this field.
At the design stage, a prototype of the preferred model can be applied to the person or displayed on a computer in order to achieve a preview close to the final result. In this way, the design is finalised based also on the patient’s wishes.
The main problems addressed in custom smile design are misalignments and the positions of the teeth, irregularities in the gums, disproportions between the teeth and the visible part of the gums, gaps related to missing teeth, as well as contractions and dents on the face and lips. Problems affecting the lips and smile are also addressed as part of this treatment.
Eliminating these problems is quite useful in making the smile beautiful. However, the main objective here is to solve all these problems without compromising the natural appearance.
In custom smile design, first, the general condition of the person’s oral and dental health is checked. Smile design cannot be started until any existing oral health problems have been addressed. Once the person’s oral and dental health is restored, aesthetic problems are determined by a specialist dentist. At this stage, the patient and dentist decide on the shape, size and alignment of the teeth.
After the necessary procedures, such as implant placement and gingival surgery, have been performed, smile design is started. Before the procedure, which lasts for about two weeks, a model of the determined design is applied to the patient without any therapeutic purpose, to observe how the design looks on the individual.
In addition, the symmetry and fullness of the lips can be adjusted through surgery according to the alignment of the teeth, if needed, and the treatment is finalised.
Crowns and veneers can be used for many different purposes: to repair a large filling, to prevent weak teeth from breaking or decaying, to cover an implant, to support a dental bridge, or for purely aesthetic purposes.
In our clinics, all treatments for your oral and dental health are performed by our specialist dentists.
Orthodontics is a specialty of dentistry that deals with diagnosis and treatment of dental and facial irregularities. Dentists who graduate from the faculty of dentistry become orthodontists after completing the specialty and doctorate program in orthodontics.
The main aims of orthodontic treatment are to improve chewing and speaking functions, make oral hygiene easier, and provide a more aesthetically pleasing appearance.
Orthodontists may contribute to nasal respiration of the patient by working together with ear, nose and throat specialists. They also work with plastic and maxillofacial surgeons in the solution of skeletal problems in adult patients and treatment of babies with cleft lip and palate. Orthodontics is a field of science that always works with other fields of dentistry.
Aesthetic interventions and correction of speech disorders contribute significantly in increasing the self-confidence of individuals and reintegrating the person into society. Elimination of the crowding in teeth not only improves aesthetics but also enables prevention of gingival disorders.
Appliances are used in orthodontic treatment. They are divided into three groups as plastic, functional and fixed appliances. In relatively simple orthodontic problems, use of plastic and movable appliances that can be removed out by the patient is sufficient. During the growth and development period, in case of insufficient or excessive development of the upper and lower jaw, functional appliances help the jaw to develop towards a specific direction. Fixed appliances enable the braces that are placed in the canals on the brackets which are bonded on teeth to move and correct the teeth. There are also auxiliary appliances. Passive appliances are used as the reinforcing therapy to prevent disruption after treatment. Today, teeth can be corrected using aesthetic and transparent brackets, braces placed at the back of teeth and transparent molds.
Brace treatment has been the most commonly used orthodontic treatment from past to present. Brackets are the most commonly used components in brace treatment. These metal pieces are bonded to the teeth and the force generated by braces is transferred to the teeth by means of brackets. The average treatment period is two years, but it may vary depending on the level of crowding. Aesthetic prostheses may be used which provide results faster than orthodontic treatments such as braces, however the greatest advantage of orthodontic treatment as compared to these methods is that it does not disrupt the natural structure of teeth in an irreversible way. The main purpose of this method is to move the teeth to their natural position by force.
This treatment can be applied at all ages. Orthodontic treatment performed at an early age provides faster results but non-skeletal problems can be corrected with orthodontic treatment at all ages. Putting on brackets makes individuals concerned aesthetically, but modern brackets with aesthetic appearance can be used as a solution to this problem.
During the brace treatment process, braces are adjusted by our dentist at certain intervals. Teeth are brought to correct position with such adjustment. Slight pain might be felt in the teeth during and after these adjustment procedures, but the patient will adapt after a while. During the treatment process, patient must perform oral care regularly, and avoid certain types of food. Such care is very important for the process to progress fast.
“Retainers” are placed on the teeth after the end of braces treatment. Retainer is left on the teeth for a while in order to prevent the teeth from returning back to their previous positions. Your dentist will inform you about how long you will keep the braces and retainer on. However, the duration of treatment is greatly affected by the level of care provided by the individual.
Orthodontic treatment can be applied at all ages. However, skeletal deformations cannot be fixed with orthodontic treatment after adolescence. In adults, skeletal problems can be fixed with orthognathic operations accompanied with orthodontic treatment. If there is no skeletal problem, and crowding is present only, the problem can be fixed with orthodontic treatment at all ages. Age is a factor that affects the duration of treatment only, however you can prevent several potential orthodontic problems with treatments performed on time by paying attention to dental health of your children.
One of the main objectives of dentistry is to protect the existing teeth and maintain their functions in the mouth. Teeth do not have to be alive to function in the mouth.
When the pulpal tissue responsible for the nutrition, defence and growth of the teeth is damaged or dies due to various reasons (such as caries, trauma or fracture), the infected pulp in the root canal of the tooth is removed, the root canals are shaped, disinfected and filled with a tissue-friendly root canal filling material. This procedure is called “root canal treatment”.
The most critical symptom of teeth requiring root canal therapy is severe pain. Such pain may begin with a stimulus such as heat, cold, chewing or touching or without any stimulus at all. The patient generally needs to take painkillers. However, teeth that have died may manifest no symptoms. A pathological condition at the end of the root can be observed through radiological examination. In this case, root canal therapy must be performed.
Root canal therapy is performed under local anaesthesia in order to eliminate toothache that affects our quality of life. The procedure is completely painless with anesthesia administered into the sufficient depth. However, it is hard to achieve an effective local anesthesia in the root canal therapy of acute pulpal diseases, and patients may feel a little pain. In such a case, the required emergency intervention is performed on the tooth, and therapy may be postponed to another day for pain control.
The success of root canal therapy depends on factors such as the condition of the tooth, the extent of infection and the quality of the treatment. With appropriate treatment and good oral care, a treated tooth can remain functional for many years. Your dentist will discuss the expected outcome and any necessary follow-up care with you.
